Beginner - These pins are quick to create and fun to give and trade. They are great projects for beginners.

A good friend once gave me a dollar store game, and I've used that game to make many, many pins. The game is a matching game consisting of numerous cardboard squares with rounded edges. These squares have a comical image on one side, but the "back" side offers an ultra smooth white surface, perfect for stamping! If you can't find this matching game in your store, simply cut out cardboard squares to achieve the same effect.

There are several ways to add color to these little "tiles". You can use a Direct-to-Paper technique with your Cat's Eyes or the corner of a full-sized ink pad to create your background. You can also use a moist wipe pressed into an inkpad and rubbed across a surface to create a subtler, softer effect.

When determining your background colors, you'll want to have an idea of where your stamp will fit into the color scheme. For instance, you may want to create lighter shades in the area where the face of your image will be. To help you achieve this, stamp your image on a piece of white tissue paper and layer over your tile to see where your face will be when stamped.

Once your background is completed and dry, stamp your image over it using your black ink. I like to ink my stamp and lay it face-up on my table, and then press the tile onto the stamp, making sure to apply even pressure over the entire surface.

If you are making a lot of these for convention trades, you may want to call it "finished" at this point. However, there are endless options for embellishing your tile after it is stamped. For Ophelia, I simply added a craft gem to the upper left corner for added dimension and a bit of pizzazz.

Beaded fringe is widely available now in craft or fabric stores. Cut a length to go across the bottom of your tile and use super tacky adhesive to adhere it to the back of your tile, turning under the raw edges of the ribbon.

Put that old costume jewelry to use and add a dangling earring to the bottom of your pins or string your own beads to create one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

There is no end to the options and embellishments you can apply to these tiles, so just have fun and experiment. You and your friends will love the results.
